The poem I chose was Annabel lee by Edgar Allen Poe. Edgar Allen Poe was born on January 19, 1809 and he died on October 7, 1849. Poe was an American poet and he was consider.  to be part of the American Romantic Movement. Poe started to get recognize when he started to edit for gentleman’s magazine and graham’s magazine, that when he started to publish some of his work

This poem stood out for me in many ways, which is why I chose it. The  meaning behind the story is very tragic but yet romantic. The writer  speaks of undying love for Annabel lee when he mentions he went to visit her tomb after death. It showed that his love for her wasn’t just a teenage crush  but stronger.

The   symbolism in this poem are Annabel, the kingdom, the sea, sepulcher. Poe uses these things to describe his emotion and is a way of him hiding the way he feels. Using these symbolism give him away  to express himself  with out really telling people who is it about.

There are many symbolisms behind this poem and one of them will be the sea. The sea symbolizes the speaker’s pain and the loneliness he feels without her. The kingdom represents the cruelty of people. Annabel Lee symbolizes the speakers real life love, Virginia Clemm. Because of her death, Annabel, also represents the love and pain the speaker felt after his loss. Though the poem doesn't speak much of Annabel's death besides "chilling and killing my Annabel Lee." He didn't want to face the truth of her death so he instead uses the sepulcher as the symbol of her death. It was a less frightening way of facing reality.
